She Wolf

Two cloaked figures glided through the dark forest. A low, rhythmic hum emitted from their bodies.  Thick fog whirled around their feet. It was creeping around their bodies, wrapping around them, twining into every possible space. Something moved in the darkness and their heads turned  in sync. A russet brown wolf appeared and edged forward. Suddenly, one flew to the wolf and wrapped its arms around it like an embrace but a suffocating the wolf. Its body went limp but the thing held it up. The wolf’s eyes rolled up towards the sky but it wasn’t dead. The other pulled its hood back to reveal disintegrating bones but no eyes or nose or mouth. Just a rotting skeleton. As it approached the limp body of the wolf it started murmuring in strange tongues, its arms lifted up to the sky. It threw them down in the direction of the wolf and the wolf jerked around in pain. The floating thing released it. A howl of torture and misery echoed through the night. A flash of white light appeared then disappeared and the wolf was gone along with the two cloaked figures. Once again the forest was silent.

(At school for a horror assesment I did a different version of She Wolf, hope you like it)

She Wolf ӧ
Two cloaked figures glided through the forest. Wind whipped past them, clawing at their rotting flesh. Every bone in my body froze; shivers ran down my spine like a runner sprinting for the finish. Swiftly, I took cover in the ever changing shadows. Suddenly, they stopped and turned. Their heads moved in a perfect sync. Twigs snapped under my feet as I slunk back against the tree. I peered around and I saw they had vanished. My heart pounded in my ears. Blood rushed through my veins, trying to escape the horror chasing after them.
Strong hands grabbed me. Well, what I at first thought were hands, turned out to be a mess of bloody disintegrating bones had me at the throat. Petrified, my eyes flew from one shadow covered tree to the other. I saw a silvery grey shape blurred in the shadows. I pleaded that whatever it was would turn and flee. But it didn’t move. I couldn’t cry out, I couldn’t run, I couldn’t even utter a single word. I dug my finger nails into the soft and crumbly bark of the tree beside me. My skin prickled when I felt the chilling breath on my neck. They muttered in strange tongues and suddenly my soul broke free from my body, I saw myself fall to the ground. I tried to scream but I found I couldn’t say anything. I couldn’t stand it; I had to latch myself onto the only other living soul I could find. The wolf…
Terrified, I hid with the wolf’s soul. I could feel its terror and it felt mine. I desperately fought to control the wolf; it was tired so it obeyed me. I peered through her eyes.
The dark forest was lit up in a ray of beautiful colours despite the horrors we had just encountered. A thin tongue of lightning licked across the sky, leaving behind a feint orange glow.  The deathly pale moon hung limply in the sky, staying luminous but sparing no light for the new kind of evil, about to entice the innocence of the world.
Unexpectedly, the figures appeared in front of us. A low rhythmic hum emitted from their bodies. A thick fog had been conjured up from beneath them. It crept up their bodies, wrapping around them and twining into every tiny space. It twisted like rope, squeezed like a snake, and trapped the air in my lungs, well, the wolf’s lungs, like a bad smell.
A manic howl of torture echoed through the night, them I realised it was me. It sounded eerie echoing through the thick woodland. Flashes of light flew around me like lightning. Burning me. Striking out at me like claws.
Helplessly, I howled.
A blood curdling howl. It shook the ground. Branches came to life and wrapped itself around my body, curling gracefully like a figure skater. It crushed my bones and squeezed the air out of my lungs. I was lifted into the air, held fast in its unruly grasps.
Startlingly, the frail branches snapped and the wolf and I tumbled to the ground. I caught a glimpse of my lifeless body, a curl of blonde hair, tousled over my face. My clothes, tatty and dirty. Pale faced and not breathing, my body was dead. Whimpering, I cowered into the floor, blood gushed into my silky fur from where the vines had cut into me.
Giving up, I let the wolf’s pleading soul take over. I knew I was growing fainter and fainter. Every breath my shuddering body took I thought it was the end…
Light. More shocking, beautiful, bright light. It was warm. No, too warm, I thought. It burned me. Scorching. I yelped…
Fire surrounded us. White dashes of lightning flew from the sky. Taunting me. My soul quivered in the very depths of the wolf’s heart. She felt my pain, and I felt hers. We were in complete agony. Fighting to stay conscious…
Shadows came to life. They pounced. A chilling breeze swept through my coat and stung the wounds. The ghostly figures swooped and dived past me. The whole forest came to life. Gnarled faces in the trees looked on at us with pure hatred. The forest was tainted with malevolence. The cloaked figures stood in the middle, conducting the heat and conjuring more smoke. Painfully, the humming got louder. Menacingly, their cloaks swooped around and I caught a glimpse of what I would imagine to be there torso. A skeleton of disintegrating flesh, hung suspended in the air. Black, mouldy, diseased bones were held together with the last remaining intact flesh. I felt giddy with sickness at the sight. I could smell them too. Their putrid breath. The stench of rotting corpse. I couldn’t take it any longer, I closed my eyes. I let the crackling of the blazing fire numb my senses. I wanted to die…
Before I closed my eyes I took one last gaze at my body. The body I had once hated. The body I would never see again. But I was happy to die. It was the first time I had felt slight happiness. It was torture I never cared to have to encounter again. I was wearing my favourite jeans. I had chosen them specially to annoy my parents. I had snuck off into the depth of the forest to disobey them. They had dragged me on what they thought would be a peaceful nature course. Naturally, I didn’t want to go. So I told them I hated them. I screamed at them and told them I wanted them dead. Now I was going to die. And I would never see them again…
The happiness faded…
Suddenly, I saw my body again. The wolf saw the tangled mess of her body too. The wolf and I were joined. Our souls merged into one another. We rose higher and higher into the boughs of the trees. The figures approached our bodies. They checked the Wolf’s body and disappeared. Swirling, we plunged toward our bodies, a shred of hope clinging onto us.
Slowly, I opened my eyes. My vision was foggy and my body ached. I looked around me. The forest was a mess, like a crime scene but worse. Nothing like I had ever seen before. Shakily, I sat up and turned my head in the direction of the whimpering wolf. She really was beautiful, however bad her injuries were. I heard a calm voice inside my head,
“I’m dying, pack sister”
Strangely, I wasn’t alarmed. Putting one foot in front of the other, I carefully made my way over to my pack sister. I smoothed the fur on her muzzle down.
“Take care pack sister” I whispered. She nodded.
I was one, with the She Wolf.
